A little regular practice can go a long way!

Research shared by CENTURY shows a positive link between regular use of the platform and achievement in maths, reading and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS). High users were nearly 1.5 times more likely to meet the expected standard across these assessments than low users. 

The figures are encouraging: 4 in 5 regular users achieved the expected standard in maths, more than 70% of regular and high users achieved it in reading, and three quarters of regular users achieved at least the expected standard in GPS. 

We encourage families to help children build CENTURY into their regular home-learning routine. Frequent opportunities to practise and revisit learning can complement the work children are doing every day in school.

At Lapal Primary School, we want every child to explore, imagine, discover, belong, read and thrive. As part of our continued commitment to developing a love of reading, we are looking to replenish our school library with wonderful books for our children to enjoy.

We are inviting families and members of our school community to donate any pre-loved children’s books that are in good condition.

Perhaps your bookshelves are overflowing, or there are stories that your children have loved but have now outgrown. Rather than leaving them unread, why not give them a new home at Lapal, where they can be discovered and enjoyed by another child?

❤️ Leave a Lasting Reading Legacy

Each donated book will receive a special “Donated by…” sticker inside.

If you would like your child’s name to be included, simply place a Post-it note inside the front cover with their first name and initial, for example, Emily R.

It is a lovely opportunity for children to leave a small but lasting legacy within our school library and help inspire another child’s love of reading.

📅 When do books need to be donated?

Please bring any pre-loved books into school by Friday 16th October.

It is also a perfect opportunity for a clear-out before Christmas, while helping us build an exciting, varied and inviting collection of books for our pupils.

Every book donated has the potential to become another child’s favourite story. 📖❤️

What a wonderful morning we had at Lapal Primary School for our Macmillan Coffee Morning!

It was lovely to welcome so many of our families into school to enjoy a warm drink, a slice of cake and some time together. It was particularly special to see some familiar faces, including former Lapal pupils returning to visit us.

The fundraising continued at the end of the school day, when our amazing Friends of Lapal returned to sell even more delicious cakes on the playground!

As a school community, we are incredibly grateful for all the generous cake donations we received and, of course, for the money donated to support such an important cause. Your kindness and generosity are what make our Lapal community so special.

💚 Together, as one Lapal family, we raised an amazing £371.06 for Macmillan Cancer Support! 💚

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, bought cakes or joined us for our coffee morning.

Week commencing 21st September 2026, 1W earned the title of our Attendance Champions, achieving a remarkable 99.6% attendance. They now proudly have the Attendance Champions Trophy to celebrate their fantastic commitment.

As well as enjoying a well‑deserved extra five‑minute break, the class also received an additional prize, inspired by suggestions from our Year 6 pupils. The winning class had the opportunity to choose a brand‑new book for their book corner, helping us to continue nurturing a love of reading across the school.

We’re incredibly proud of 1W's effort and enthusiasm and can’t wait to see which class will take the trophy next week. Keep up the fantastic effort, everyone! 📚🏆
