This morning, as part of our writing unit, the Year 6 pupils dressed as baddies from a fairytale. We spent out morning, reading a range of books and discussing which baddie was the most evil. The children then conducted role play interviews with each other to gather a range of vocabulary. 

Today, Year One had a visit from a volunteer from a local food charity, ‘Manna House’ to talk to the children about the work they do to support food poverty in the local community. This linked into our book, ‘Last Stop on Market Street,’ where CJ and his Nana took the bus to a local soup kitchen to support their community.

We were super proud of how well Year 1 represented our school and thank you for your generous donations.

Year One have had a fantastic two experience days as part of their English lessons. We have been reading, “Last Stop On Market Street,” which involves the main character, CJ, getting on a bus to a destination.

The children had fun using the school minibus to role play a bus ride. They handed in their tickets to the conductor and found their seats. They fastened seat belts and talked about safety when travelling, and called out the various stops along the imaginary journey.

The children used bikes to follow routes and practiced stopping at traffic signals. They drew routes and maps cars to follow and used directional language to follow and give instructions.

The next experience day, the children took part in drama and hot seating activities to meet and get to know the various people travelling on a bus. The children thought of open questions to find out as much as possible about each character. We used some props and special objects to help us. These were handed to the characters, and they generated questions as to who this person was and why he/she was carrying such an object.

Well done Year One!

It has been a wonderful start to our new year in Reception.  Our first full week saw the children establishing routines and settling in to school life.  All of the children have enjoyed meeting their new friends and exploring our classroom and wonderful outside area!  This week saw our Snack Cafe open it's doors and the children have enjoyed independently choosing and preparing their own snacks! 

We have introduced our safety monitors who take responsibility to ensure our classroom and outdoor areas are safe and tidy, ready to learn.  Wearing their hi-vis jackets they take pride in checking the learning environment.

The classroom has been full of singing, stories and getting to know each other. 

We can not wait to see what the rest of the term brings for our youngest learners at Lapal.
