Key Stage One Science Workshop

This morning, our little scientists took part in an exciting Science workshop with a Doctor of Science. During the workshop, the children investigated the properties of materials. They observed a range of materials and then discussed their properties using the following vocabulary: opaque, transparent, flexible, rigid, smooth, soft, hard and bumpy. The children also investigated what happened to each of the materials when water was poured onto them. Finally, using their knowledge of materials and their properties, the children worked together to sort and classify the materials in their bag.

To end the session, the children were given the following items: a bowl, blue powder, three sugar cubes and water. Once they had discussed and shared their predictions, the children completed an investigation and discussed what they had found out. There was lots of discussion around how melting is different to dissolving.

Lapal's super scientists had a great time investigating materials and their properties.
