KS1's Return to School

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

The children in Key Stage One have settled into the new school year beautifully. They have demonstrated resilience to change, perseverance to challenges and kindness to themselves, each other and their teachers. What little superstars! We are very proud of all of the children.

Here is a sneak peak at some of the exciting things that have been going on so far:

Year One

This week, we have been involved in firefighter training. We spent the morning doing various activities, such as:

An obstacle course with ladders and hurdles to improve our fitness.

We rescued various trapped animals from treetops. We worked in teams to rescue the animals. One of us had to call the fire station for backup and ladders. We acted out how we would climb a ladder safely with one of our crew members holding the base.

We practised holding a hose at a target! We had to use the force of the water to hit the discs off balance.

Year Two

On Wednesday morning, Mr Homer sent our teachers an email about a visitor that he had met on the playground one evening this week. A little while later, we received a letter from this visitor who explained that he was in such a hurry to leave our school grounds that he left some of his belongings behind. We went out to explore. We couldn't believe our eyes! We found a toolbox, a hammer, a spirit level, noise cancelling headphones, screws and a screwdriver. There were broken roof tiles and wood. We also spotted pig footprints and a skid mark from a motorbike! We also think our visitor helped himself to some of the apples in our orchard. We put on our detective hats and discovered that The Big Bad Pig had visited our school. We learnt all about how he had destroyed the wolves' houses. We cannot wait to write our stories about him!

During our reading for pleasure slot, we received a parcel from our teachers. We read the extract on the front and unwrapped the parcel. We talked about what we think the story might be about and we cannot wait to begin reading The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl, one of our favourite authors!
