Lapal Primary Wins Prestigious Award

We are so proud to be able to tell you that Lapal Primary School has been recognised in the 2021 Farshore (formerly Egmont) Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards, in association with The Open University and The UK Literacy Association.
We are delighted to have been awarded the Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Award for the category of ‘Whole School’. We are so proud of the recognition we have received for our inspiring work around reading for pleasure and for the steps we have taken to build a highly effective reading community.

For two years, we have been part of the Reading for Pleasure research project and we engaged in the local Teachers Reading Group network. Our vision was to ensure that not only do our pupils become proficient readers, but they also develop a love of literature and take pleasure in reading. Through strategic planning, our multifaceted approach has led to children being immersed in rich literature, which has enabled them to broaden and diversify their repertoire of authors and reading materials. This was further recognised by OFSTED, who confirmed that reading has been placed at the heart of our school.

The judging panel commented...
We are very impressed with your strategic and systematic approach and clear planning to embed reading for pleasure at Lapal. It’s wonderful to hear there is daily allocated time for reading for pleasure for all children. We admire your stakeholder engagement approach, the link to local libraries and the way you have engaged parents. It’s clear the children have increased enjoyment and motivation to read. You really have embedded reading for pleasure, and it has come alive. The impact is clear and we are delighted that Ofsted have recognized it too. Your work is inspirational.
Today, we held a celebratory assembly with the children across school, where we shared our wonderful news about being winners of this prestigious award and where we congratulated the huge efforts of our pupils, parents and staff who contributed to our success in reading for pleasure and in being recognised for this award.
