In maths this half term, year 2 have been learning about money. One of our pupils brought in a 1p coin from 1938, which belonged to her granddad, to share with us. We had a close look at the coin and compared it to the coins that we use today.
We were really interested to find that the 1p coin from 1938 was not only larger than the 1p and 2p coins that we use today but it was also slightly larger than the 50p coin that one of our other pupils had in her panda purse. We talked about how this might confuse people because it is larger than a 50p coin but the amount it represented was worth less than 50p.
