In year 6, we are looking at materials and how they change.
We began our lesson this week by mixing water and an unknown powder (cornflour) together. It was interesting to see the solution changing from a liquid to a solid and then separating. We then looked at how items can dissolve in water.
From a tray of ingredients, we created our own enquiry question and planned our experiment. We had a range of questions from 'Which solid dissolves faster out of coffee and talc?', 'Does water and shaving foam create a solution or a mixture?'. We discussed how we would ensure that we were completing a fair test. It was great to discover the solids that dissolved as some of them separated from each other.
